Will a step up transformer work on a wind generator?

Question by Garden man: Will a step up transformer function on a wind generator?
I need to step up the voltage in order to charge my batteries and am only obtaining about 6v in a typical wind. Will this pull too tough on the generator?

Answer by mrwizard9090a transformer can step up or down the voltage of any alternating present. it can not change the number of watts offered. if you have 100 watts offered at 6 volts, going to 12 volts is still 100 watts, much less any losses
